Family Photos

Here are a few of the pictures we had taken August 28th, so Savannah was only 3 weeks old at the time. We thought the photographer did a pretty good job that Savannah slept soundly through most of it.

We Are Official!

We are official! We picked up Savannah's passport and Certificate of Birth Abroad. We now have paperwork to prove that she is a US Citizen and she owns an official passport. Wonder if Savannah will ever understand (and appreciate) that she has a passport years before most adults and will have more unique experiences than most at her age!

Dubai Fountain

Before heading to the airport we headed to the Dubai Fountain for one last "sight-seeing" adventure before my parents left town. The Fountain is set on the 30-acre Burj Khalifa Lake, the fountain shoots water jets as high as 500 ft, equivalent to that of a 50-story building. The fountain is 900 ft long and has five circles of varying sizes and two central arcs. It was designed by the creators of the Fountains of Bellagio in Las Vegas. The fountain sits outside the Dubai Mall and the Burj Khalifa. In Dubai style, this is the largest water fountain in the world.

Smile Caught on Camera

Today we went shopping for curtains and dinner at a new PF Changs (there are now two in Dubai). The fountain in the pictures is outside the restaurant at the Mall of Emirates.

Granddad also bought Savannah her new polka-dot dress.

Savannah also tried out her Bumbo Chair. Although she isn't quite ready to sit in her chair, I did manage to catch a smile!

Metro Ride

After a little "pajama playtime" we continued my parents "sight-seeing" with a ride on the Metro. We rode from the Dubai Marina to the Mall of Emirates. We had lunch at the mall, rode back and went grocery shopping at the Marina Mall. It was Savannah's first full day of errands!

The Metro is Dubai's public transportation. We rode in the "gold class" section, which costs a little more but is not as crowded and much easier with the stroller and Savannah. Currently only the "red line" is operational with the "green line" still under construction. Several more stations are due to open this month and once the "green line" opens the Dubai Metro will become the longest automated metro network in the world. (Would Dubai do it any other way?)

Life is a Beach!

Today we took Savannah to the beach for the first time! The beach at our apartment is still "under construction" so we went to the public beach at Jumeirah Beach Park. It was beautiful. Maybe it was the fact that it is a work day or the fact that it is still about a hundred degrees outside but we virtually had the beach to ourselves. Since it was so hot and sunny we were only there for a little bit, but I can't wait to take Savannah back again. The water was warmer than bath water but a beautiful clear blue with white sand. This park is only minutes from our apartment so I can't wait to show Chris our new backyard!

Desert Adventure

This afternoon my mom and dad went out for a "Desert Adventure". Their six hour adventure included a four-wheeling, off road drive through the sand dunes, views of the sunset over the desert, a traditional Arabic dinner and camel rides! Chris and I look forward to doing this "tourist-adventure" but with Savannah we will be waiting a little while before we get out to the desert.

First Smile!

What a great day! Today we had lunch at the Atlantis Hotel with my parents. (The food was again phenomenal!) We also went to the Atlantis Aquarium. Savannah slept through lunch and the Aquarium, except when we were in front of a display of very brightly colored red and blue fish.We then came home and watched the Ole Miss/Vanderbilt game on TV (well really the internet displayed on our TV) but the highlight of the day was Savannah's first smiles! She smiled first at Chris (at least I saw it), then at my mom and just when I was feeling left out she smiled at me! We are now all anxiously awaiting the next smiles
and of course hoping that they are directed toward us!
