Goodbye Hotel!

Today we officially checked out of the hotel. We have been there for about 7 1/2 weeks and while their are things we will miss (room service and someone to make the bed everyday) it will be fabulous to be a space that we can begin to call our own.

Today Chris also picked up our car, of course this was again a process that took hours...when we thought it would be a quick task. (You would think we had learned by now!) When Chris arrived at the dealership he was informed that the person who takes care of the registration process is a government employee and they sometimes decide to not come to work. Just our luck, they chose today to be one of those days! So Chris had to wait while they drove the registration to some other office...at least it is taken care of. Hours later we began our moving process. We now have everything at the apartment and can begin the process of putting things away.

Tonight we also went out to eat with Chris' coworkers and our regular dinner group. Tonight we went to PF Changs in Mirdiff City. Chris and I are both enjoying all of the new foods we have tried since we have been in Dubai but it was great to be able to order for ourselves and know exactly what we were getting. Conveniently, PF Changs in located in yet another mall and near a Pottery Barn! Of course I was able to find lots of things that would be great for our new home, but we settled on another shelf for the wall...maybe Savannah and I will have to make another trip on our own for a few more additions!

Driving in Dubai is a whole different situation. Now that Chris is driving (I still don't have my driver's license...Chris has to go with me to the licensing agency to "grant" me permission and with Ramadan government offices are only open hours that are impossible to get to if you work) we have noticed a few things: (besides that there are not street addresses)...there is a lot of construction so the road may be open one day and closed the next, there are a lot of signs (everything is in English and Arabic so it is a lot to focus on), the road will just split and before you know it you are going the complete wrong direction, if you miss your exit you can add another 30 minutes to your drive (you cannot just get off at the next exit and get back on the highway because the next exit goes somewhere completely different). All of this being said, it took us quite awhile to get to dinner but we made it and I am beginning to think that maybe I don't need to be in such a rush to get my driver's license.
